Sculpting a Vision: How Custom Pieces are Brought to Life

There is no doubt that having a unique piece elevates your home. Whether it be an Italian style marble mantel in your living room, or a bronze dolphin tabletop statue on your dinner table, having a special piece of art in your home will inevitably be a conversation starter.

Sometimes, however, in the midst of building a new house or designing a living room unlike any other, the only thing that really fits your space is a vision. While there are many products out there to choose from, many customers have very specific ideas that are tailor made for their creation.

That's where custom pieces come in. You provide the vision, and we handle the rest. Whether you are looking to create a special fountain for your motor court driveway, or a marble statue or bust of your loved one, Fine's Gallery creates custom pieces for its customers on a regular basis.

How are custom pieces created?

There are two different methods that are used for creating bronze and marble custom pieces, although they have some overlapping similarities, one being clay molds.

For bronze pieces, clay molds are hand-made by artisans and then cast into bronze.

This custom stag bronze sculpture first began as a clay mold, and was later cast into bronze.

For marble pieces, the clay molds are hand-made by artisans as well, allowing the marble carvers to have a life-sized reference of what they are carving. The client also provides their material of choice for the custom piece.

The second method is a design concept sketch that is created by the artisan to outline certain features of the piece. This concept is then transformed into a 3D rendered model before going into production. This way, the client can see exactly what their piece will look like, and confirm that it matches their vision. Finally, the groundwork is sent to the hands of the artisan, who will spend weeks creating the piece.

The artist's sketch provides a blueprint for the next steps in bringing a custom piece to life. The sketch then becomes a 3D rendition to provide a point of reference to the sculptor.
